Description

TSF vintage radio WIFI - High Fidelity sound

Upcycled into a custom 2-way connected speaker, this device is part of our High Fidelity range. It contains a 80W class D amplifier combined with a 12cm 60W woofer and a 20W tweeter (the original speaker had a power of 1W!). A digital filtering allows to obtain a very flat response curve, for a balanced high-fidelity sound. Particular attention has been paid to the bass: the bass is dynamic (its level is increased at low volume) and a switch activates the Superbass function to give more weight to the bass according to the taste of the listener and the type of music.

The device also features noise filters to suppress electronic noise from the WIFI card and electrical activity in the room.

Its WIFI module will allow you to stream audio from music platforms and radio stations with much better sound quality than Bluetooth. Technical possibilities are rapidly evolving and we are dedicated to making our vintage devices effective tools to take advantage of them!

WIFI connectivity also opens up the possibility of synchronous wireless streaming to multiple devices (multi-room). If you buy a second device (radio, WIFI record player or WIFI speaker), one could play the left track and the other the right, or one could play your music in the living room and the other in the kitchen. We also sell a WIFI adaptor that converts your audio system into a WIFI speaker via a simple jack plug.

The device is also equipped with a Bluetooth connectivity to broadcast tracks stored on your phone (MP3 ...) or sound directly from the Internet (Youtube ...).

  • the varnish is scratched and chipped in places on the top of the case
  • the veneer has a few dents and chips, including one on the front top-right corner

As you can see on the pictures, this 90 yo radio is in very good condition!

History of the radio

This rare radio was made in Paris by Philips in 1934! The Depression hit France early on, and in 1934 Philips designed smaller radios with all the style and elegance they'd put into their larger 1933 models!

Philips was founded in 1891 by Frederik Philips and his son Gerard. The father, a banker, financed the acquisition of a factory in Eindhoven, where the company began to manufacture electrical components. After a difficult first few years, during which they almost went bankrupt, Gerard's younger brother Anton joined the company. As an engineer, he quickly brought fresh ideas to the table and the business grew rapidly. In the following years, the family laid the foundations for the multinational electronics company. In the 1930s they marketed the very popular "Chapelle" radio, and in 1939 the first electric razor.

After World War II, Philips produced vinyl turntables that we love for their robustness. The company contributed a lot to the Art Deco movement, seeking to move away from the natural lines of Art Nouveau into more abstract modern forms. After 1960 came the tape players, then other technologies.
